Malgar guide: skills, build and team roles

Overview

Malgar is a Rare Dark Melee Attacker from the Ironbands in Invokers: Titan Legacy. His kit is direct and easy to pick up: solid damage, two Skills that Launch enemies, and an Ultimate that speeds up his own Combo Attacks. He is at his strongest when he can crash into a group of enemies and knock them out of action while your team attacks.

The Backhand Launches one enemy seven metres away, which can separate a dangerous attacker from your team or interrupt a target mid-attack. The Stinger Launches up to eight enemies within five metres of Malgar, so get him close to the group before using it. His Ultimate, The Obliterator, attacks up to eight enemies around the closest target and grants Malgar a Combo SPD Up buff. The buff is his own, and it speeds up his Combo Attacks rather than his Skill cooldowns.

To get the most from Malgar, charge into a group, Launch them with The Stinger, then follow up with The Obliterator while they are still bunched together and his Combo SPD Up buff powers up his Combo Attacks.

Skills To Prioritize

Skill 3, The Stinger, is his main control Skill. Its Launch lasts one second at first, 1.5 seconds at Level 6 and two seconds at Level 10. Max Level lowers its cooldown to 24 seconds.

Skill 2, The Backhand, reaches a 1.5-second Launch at Level 10, with a 25-second cooldown. Max Level lowers that cooldown to 23 seconds, while the knockback stays at seven metres.

His Ultimate, The Obliterator, grants 10% Combo SPD Up for eight seconds at Level 1, 18% for ten seconds at Level 10 and 20% at Max Level. Its Mana cost falls from 900 to 875 at Level 5, 850 at Level 8 and 800 at Max Level.

Skill 1, The Tenderizer, hits one enemy twice. Its upgrades, like those to his Combo Attack, add damage without changing what it does.

If you want Malgar to control waves of enemies, prioritize The Stinger, as Level 10 doubles its Launch to two seconds. If you want your Malgar to deal more damage, consider upgrading The Obliterator first, due to its AoE damage and stronger Combo SPD Up buff.

Build And Team Support

ATK, Crit Rate, and Crit DMG are all important, due to Malgar's role as a Melee Attacker. Accuracy helps his Launches land, from both The Backhand and The Stinger. His high HP gives him some staying power up close, but he has no self-heal or Shield, so bring a healer and a Tank to take the pressure off him.

Malgar does not place DEF Down or Weaken, so a teammate who does will make the whole team's attacks, including his, hit harder.

For more damage, consider Attack Relics to gain their ATK Set Bonus. To make his Launches land more consistently, equip Accuracy Relics. Vampire Relics are also worth considering early on, as their Lifesteal gives Malgar some much-needed self-sustain.

Arena, Bosses And Spires

In Arena, Malgar can interrupt an exposed enemy with The Backhand or disrupt a whole group with The Stinger. Be wary of enemy Invokers with high RES or the Willpower buff, as they can stop his Launch from landing.

Malgar's native Daze Tolerance helps against Ulgorim and Galvos. Ulgorim is immune to Control Debuffs, so bring Malgar there as a damage dealer, with teammates who place the Heal Reduction the fight calls for. Galvos takes more damage for every debuff on him, so pair Malgar with Invokers who place plenty of debuffs.

Against Sorgott, The Stinger and The Obliterator help clear out his Crypt Rats. Sorgott deals most of his damage through Manaburn and Crush Corruption, and Malgar does not have native Manaburn or Crush Tolerance, so bring Invokers or Relics that do, along with Invokers who can grant Immunity or cleanse debuffs.

Against Omnissi, Malgar works best as extra damage. He does not place the Move SPD Down needed against Omnissi (Wind) or the Combo SPD Down needed against Omnissi (Dark), so pair him with Invokers who do.

In the Dark Spire, Malgar is a great pick for controlling waves: The Stinger can Launch a whole group while your team attacks, and The Obliterator clears them out. Pair him with Dark Invokers who cover what he does not bring. Belmor is a sturdy Rare Tank whose Weaken and ATK Down help the team hit harder and take less damage. Darkseer Lumisa heals, revives and boosts the team's ATK. For extra debuffs, Ulsos the Dark Star places DEF Down and Weaken from the front line, helping Malgar's attacks hit harder.

Awaken

Awakening boosts an Invoker's stats significantly. Bonuses from Relics, Accessories, the Trophy Room, Tactics and Titan leader bonuses apply to base stats and Awakening stats alike, so unlocking the Awakening nodes is critical to maximise Malgar's potential.

Unlocking the Titan nodes at Star 2, 4 and 6 each add a second to Titan Invokation, taking the total from 12 seconds to 15.
