Durlag the Kingsbane guide: skills, build and team roles
Overview
Durlag the Kingsbane is a Legendary Dark Melee Attacker from the Ironbands Faction in Invokers: Titan Legacy. He brings area control, repeated area attacks and a way to keep the buffs your teammates place on him running longer. These work together when your team can keep him alive near several enemies: Launch interrupts enemies who can be Launched, and his multi-hit attacks keep up the pressure while he builds toward Dark Hail.
Fully Awakened and before Gear, Durlag has 1,085 ATK, 929 DEF and 7,973 HP. His ATK is high for a Melee Attacker and his HP is about average.
He has no healing or Shield of his own, and Soul Scourge only extends buffs that are already on him, so it's worth most when your team places useful buffs on him.
Skills To Prioritize
Void Splinter attacks around Durlag and Launches enemies. The base cooldown stays at ten seconds, while the Launch lasts 3.8 seconds at Level 10 and four seconds at Max Level. That gives him a recurring control Skill without waiting for his Ultimate, as long as he can reach the enemies and land the Launch. It needs Accuracy, and control immunity, protection charges and enemy positioning can all stop it from interrupting enemies.
Soul Scourge attacks one enemy and extends buffs on Durlag. At Level 10 it extends up to five random buffs, by ten seconds on a critical hit or eight seconds otherwise. Max Level affects all eligible buffs and raises the critical extension to eleven seconds. His fifth Combo Attack adds smaller extensions, with Max Level selecting up to three buffs for two seconds. Neither overrides effect-specific restrictions: Unkillable and Invincibility can't be extended, and a longer duration doesn't restore protection charges that have already been used.
Demon Shredder attacks nearby enemies four times. At Level 10 and Max Level, a critical hit grants 25 Ultimate Mana, compared with seven for a non-critical hit, so critical hits give him Mana as well as damage. Don't count on the maximum on every cast: a crowded wave and a single Boss give different returns.
His Ultimate, Dark Hail, attacks an area eight times. Its DEF bypass grows with the buffs on him and is capped at 60% at Level 10 and Max Level, with 6% per buff at Max Level and 5.5% at Level 10. It's capped, so it isn't unlimited DEF penetration. Max Level raises its damage and lowers the cost from 850 to 800 Mana.
If you want Durlag to control enemies, upgrade Void Splinter first, as its Launch grows from 3.8 to four seconds at Max Level. If you want him to deal damage against Bosses that can't be Launched, upgrade Demon Shredder and Dark Hail first, as they carry his damage and Ultimate Mana.
Build And Team Support
Put Accuracy on your Chestplate and Flask so Void Splinter's Launch lands, then build Crit Rate to about 75-80%, then as much Crit DMG as the build allows, with ATK alongside. After that point, Crit DMG is worth more than more Crit Rate. Critical hits matter twice for him: Demon Shredder gives more Ultimate Mana on a critical hit, and Soul Scourge extends buffs longer on one. Keep enough HP and DEF to survive in melee.
For Relic Sets, Accuracy Relics help Launch land, Crit Rate Relics get him to the Crit Rate threshold, and Crit Damage Relics make each critical hit land harder. His native Fatigue and Frost Tolerances both match Yskara's Corruptions.
Pair him with Invokers who place ATK Up, critical buffs or ordinary defensive buffs, so Soul Scourge has something worth extending. He has no healing, cleansing or enemy buff removal, so bring Invokers who cover those, and a Tank or other protection to keep him alive in melee.
If you already have Cindrake, its Invokation ends with a 100% ATK Up for 20 seconds at Max Level, an offensive buff Durlag can benefit from and extend. That's a high-investment pairing, not a requirement. Cindrake's DEF-bypass attacks are separate from Durlag's own Ultimate, and their coefficients aren't added together.
Arena, Bosses And Spires
In Arena, frequent area Launch works well against grouped enemies who rely on finishing important opening Skills. Durlag has to survive in range, and your team should take advantage of the interruption instead of expecting control alone to win. Be wary of enemies who are protected against Launch, as that takes away much of his advantage.
Be wary of Bosses that are immune to Control Debuffs, as they won't be affected by Durlag's Launches. There he contributes multi-hit damage, buff extension and Mana generation instead.
Be wary of Dark Omnissi, who reflects active Skills, as Durlag attacks with several area Skills. Bring an Invoker who places Combo SPD Down for that fight.
In the Dark Spire, his broad attacks and recurring Launch suit waves. A Support who places ATK Up, critical buffs or ordinary defensive buffs also gives Soul Scourge something useful to extend.
Awaken
Awakening boosts an Invoker's stats significantly. Bonuses from Relics, Accessories, the Trophy Room, Tactics and Titan leader bonuses apply to base stats and Awakening stats alike, so unlocking the Awakening nodes is critical to maximise Durlag's potential.
Unlocking each Titan node at Star 2, 4 and 6 adds a second to Titan Invokation, taking the total from 12 seconds to 15.
