Top 15 Tanks
Every team needs someone in front, but Tanks do very different jobs: some Taunt enemies onto themselves, some shield and cleanse the team, some are debuffers who happen to be hard to kill. These fifteen each cover something a team needs somewhere in the game.
The following Tanks are listed in no particular order. Each section explains what the Invoker does, where it helps, and what to watch for, followed by three honorable mentions.
To see where each Invoker stands by mode and by Boss, open the Ultimate Tier List. Skills can change with updates, so check an Invoker's page before you invest in them.
Admiral Gladstone
Admiral Gladstone is a Legendary Earth Tank from the Freeborn, and as much a debuffer as a frontline Invoker. His Ultimate places Crit Rate Down, Combo SPD Down and DEF Down on the enemies in front of him, which helps your whole team.
Howl of the Deep pairs Weaken with Mindworm, Hand of Greed places Heal Reduction and shields him, and his Combo Attack extends a debuff. He has no Taunt, so enemies are not forced onto him.
Build Gladstone if you want a Tank whose debuffs make the whole team's damage go further.
Virtus the Heavensent
Virtus the Heavensent is a Legendary Light Tank from the Lightseekers who does a bit of everything. His Ultimate revives fallen allies and gives them DEF Up, and since all his damage scales with DEF, that buff also makes him hit harder.
He gives allies Deflection, gives himself Immunity and Harden, and heals himself. Deflection moves damage from your allies onto Virtus, so keep him healthy enough to carry it.
Build Virtus if you want a Tank who can bring the team back from the brink of disaster.
Ruthos the Enthralled
Ruthos the Enthralled is an Epic Earth Tank from the Lightseekers, and protects his team with shields and cleansing rather than Taunt. His Ultimate charges in, Launches and places Heal Reduction, which is useful against enemies that heal, such as Ulgorim.
He also places Move SPD Down, which gives your team room to move. Without Taunt, enemies can still go past him, so keep your fragile Invokers behind him.
Build Ruthos if you need a Tank who shields and cleanses the whole team.
Rikharel the Seascale
Rikharel the Seascale is an Epic Water Tank from the Eldrin, and a Taunt Tank that is easy to overlook. Great Serpent's Gaze Taunts the enemies in front of him and shields him for each one hit, so a bigger wave gives him a bigger Shield.
He also places ACC Down, Combo SPD Down and ATK Down, and his Manaburn Tolerance helps against Hyxxis. He is a strong pick for the Water Spire.
Build Rikharel if you need an Epic Taunt Tank for Water teams.
Confar the Burnished
Confar the Burnished is an Epic Fire Tank from the Eldrin, and brings what helps your team deal damage: RES Down, DEF Down and Burn, plus a Shield for nearby allies based on the damage he deals.
Burnished Hawk gives him a Shield and DEF Up. He is not a Taunt Tank, so he protects through Shields rather than by drawing enemies onto himself.
Build Confar if you want a durable front line that also makes your damage dealers hit harder.
Kryxa the Giantfeller
Kryxa the Giantfeller is a Legendary Dark Tank from the Ironbands, and a strong Taunt Tank. Giantskull Charge places ATK Down and Taunt, Heinous Chop places ACC Down, and Signature Cut places Crit Rate Down and Recovery Down.
This Land's Mine! gives her Immunity and gives the team Deflection, so she takes a share of the damage aimed at her allies. That makes her survival your team's survival: back her with healing.
Build Kryxa if you want a Taunt Tank who also cuts several kinds of enemy damage.
Furnos the Iron Wall
Furnos the Iron Wall is a Legendary Fire Tank from the Ironbands. Burning Hate places Taunt and ATK Down on a group, and Dragon Breath heals him from the damage he deals.
Smoldering Rage gives nearby allies Move SPD Up, Crit Rate Up and Crit DMG Up, which makes him almost a Support, and Blazing Will adds Weaken.
Build Furnos if you need a Taunt Tank and your damage dealers want Crit buffs.
Skoloss the Tomb Baron
Skoloss the Tomb Baron is a Legendary Water Tank from the Nocturna. Revenant Charge places ATK Down and Taunts enemies, and Graveyard Smash removes debuffs from allies, gives them Immunity and generates Titan Mana for every enemy hit.
He also heals himself, places Weaken, can Pull enemies into place, and Stuns with his Combo Attack. Against Bosses immune to Control Debuffs, his Taunt, Pull and Stun will not land, so there he is there for his cleansing and Titan Mana.
Build Skoloss if you want a Tank who controls enemies and protects the team from debuffs.
Valentu the Devoted
Valentu the Devoted is a Legendary Light Tank from the Nocturna who leans toward damage as well. Devout Denial places Weaken and gives allies Deflection, and Haunted Rebuke places Taunt and Mindworm on a group.
His Ultimate, Unbroken Vow, shortens the Skill cooldowns of nearby allies, so your whole team gets its Skills back sooner.
Build Valentu if you want a Taunt Tank who speeds up the rest of your team.
Ulsos the Dark Star
Ulsos the Dark Star is an Epic Dark Tank from the Nocturna, and a Tank built for Bosses. Condemn to Dusk places DEF Down, Weaken, ATK Down and Combo SPD Down on one target in a single Skill.
Fall of Night places RES Down, Dark Star shields him from the damage he deals, and Umbral Dawn transfers his debuffs. He has no Taunt and does not heal his allies.
Build Ulsos if you want to stack debuffs on a Boss from your Tank.
Kingpin Tatsulow
Kingpin Tatsulow is a Legendary Fire Tank from the Nocturna, built around critical hits. His damage scales with DEF, but his critical hits shorten his cooldowns and give him Mana, so Crit Rate matters on him.
Draw Strength shields him from the damage it deals, Reverb Crater gives allies Deflection, and Collect Dues generates a lot of Titan Mana.
Build Tatsulow if you want a Tank who doubles as a Titan Mana battery.
Belmor
Belmor is a Rare Dark Tank from the Stonehearts, and the only Rare on this list. He places ATK Down and Weaken, and Everdeep Shieldwall gives him a Shield and Immunity against the first debuffs aimed at him.
His damage scales with DEF, so a Titan whose bound effect gives a lot of DEF makes him much stronger. He is a strong pick for the Dark Spire.
Build Belmor if you need a durable Tank early and want one any account can get.
Kyoze the Testament
Kyoze the Testament is a Legendary Water Tank from the Cambion, and keeps himself alive. Barbican Blade gives him Lifeboost from the damage he deals, and Shredding Eye heals him, by more when it kills, which helps against groups of enemies.
Radial Mortality places Taunt and ATK Down, and Channel Apocalypse charges and Launches. Be aware that Radial Mortality also gives the Taunted enemies a short Combo SPD Up.
Build Kyoze if you want a Taunt Tank who needs little help from your healer.
Gondo the Watchman
Gondo the Watchman is an Epic Dark Tank from the Cambion with both sustain and control. Doom Oculus places Shock and Blind on the enemies in front of him, Hold The Gates shields nearby allies based on HP, and Jaws of Hatred Launches enemies and then Taunts them.
Mallet Smasher also extends one of his buffs.
Build Gondo if you want an Epic Tank who protects the team and locks enemies down.
Gohshu the Faceless
Gohshu the Faceless is an Epic Water Tank from the Cambion, with Crush and Manaburn Tolerances, a pairing that suits Sorgott. He places DEF Down, Protector Stance shields him based on his HP, Drain Dishonor heals him, and Enforce Honor gains damage for every debuff on the target.
His Shield and heal grow with the buffs on him and the debuffs on his target, so he works best beside Invokers who place both.
Build Gohshu if you need a Tank to help take on Sorgott.
Lazenne (Honorable Mention)
Lazenne is an Epic Fire Tank from the Magi. Justiciar's Condemnation places Heal Reduction, Champion's Glory places Combo SPD Down, and Mage-Knight's Power extends debuffs on a group. She is at her best against Ulgorim.
Kolan Deepreef (Honorable Mention)
Kolan Deepreef is an Epic Water Tank from the Freeborn. Reef Barrier gives him a Shield and Reflect Damage, Deepdrop Kick heals him from the damage it deals, Spines of the Sea Launches, and Cursebound Anchor transfers and extends debuffs.
Wild King Caladras (Honorable Mention)
Wild King Caladras is an Epic Fire Tank from the Eldrin. He places DEF Down from two different Skills and Weaken, gives allies Deflection, extends debuffs with Untamed Heart, and instantly ticks Burn and Bleed with Wildland Rebuke.
