invokers have been there for us all the way through the implementation stage. You can count on them. They really know their business. And for sure, invokers will be the first we contact the next time we need help with mobile solutions with SAP integration. Quite simply, they are worth their weight in ”Gold Bars”, as we put it at Toms.
Toms had a hand-held scanner solution based on ”middleware” software. But after an SAP upgrade, the hand-held scanner system no longer worked, so the company had to spend a considerable amount of money on an upgrade of the middleware as well to be able to continue using the vital hand-held scanners.
Building on several years of successful co-operation, invokers have now designed and developed a new hand scanner solution which does not use any “middleware”. This solution now enables TOMS to deliver, return and record inventory data from their Service Warehouse. Employees who pick spare parts or other items from the warehouse can now register which items they pick by scanning a bar code placed on the shelves or drawers containing the items. They enter the relevant order or cost centre so that the consumption data goes to the right place in the accounts.
The solution builds directly on Toms' SAP ECC system without any middleware or major infrastructural modifications or investments. SAP standard technology was used for the entire solution, and the Psyion hand-held scanners chosen can withstand the demanding environment at the spare parts warehouse. The hand-held scanners can access the network via both WIFI and a 3g modem thanks to the VPN technology built into the scanner.
Today, the system is just so much easier to handle for the employees than the old one. The idea of using colours and icons was just the right one. They could use the scanner right away, without any training or use of manuals. The solution is highly user friendly and has a significant impact on the job satisfaction. The entire technological background is modern and reliable, making it easy for the IT department to maintain the system. Toms no longer has to maintain an additional system or pay for software licences other than SAP licences.
